How often do you need to change the tyres on your car? It seems to happen to me more than it should. Just when you get my car through its MOT and service (paying out a couple of hundred quid on the way!), you then realise you need new tyres. That is right, you never need a new tyre… it is always tyres in the plural. If you are lucky 2 but if not you might need 4. Where do you find cheap tyres?
That question prompted me to start this website. I always found myself asking ‘where do I find cheap tyres?’ When you tot it all up you spend more than you think. You change them more regularly than you realise. When you call to get a quote the price you get seems reasonable but when you get your final bill you usually have forgotten to take into account one of more of the following…
• You thought you needed 2 tyres, you actual needed 4!
• The cheap tyres that you were quoted for aren’t actually in stock so they had to use a type that was £10 more. Doesn’t sound expensive? Try multiplying that by 4
• Don’t forget VAT! Sometimes you get a quote without VAT so remember to add 20% so in the previous example where you had the more expensive tyres it would be £10 x 4 tyres + 20% more expensive.
• What happens to your old worn ones? That is right you have to pay for the disposal of those too.
• Don’t forget the balancing, your new wheels will have to be balance to prevent premature wearing.
So what happened for your quote for cheap tyres? All disappeared quite quickly didn’t it? I dread to think the costs if I had a second car, high performance or modified car!
The thing is all of us are in different situations but there are things that we can do to save costs. There are things that we can do at and just before the point of purchase but there are also things that you can do throughout the year to keep down the long term costs.
